2021-05-06 19:18

On May 6, in response to the 100 Million Meals campaign initiated by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, Consul General Li Xuhang visited the labor accommodation to attend a Ramadan charity event that donate Iftar to local labors in difficulties. Dozens of overseas Chinese organization leaders including Hassan, the head of the charitable organization under Community Development Authority Dubai, and Xu Xiaoping, Vice President and Secretary-General of the UAE All-China Federation, attended the event.

Hassan highly praised the charitable activities of the Consulate General and said that holding charity activities during the Ramadan is one of the important traditions of the UAE. Due to the epidemic, the lives of low-income groups such as ordinary foreign workers have been affected. The Chinese Consulate General and overseas Chinese in Dubai actively participated in Ramadan charity events and donated even more iftar meals than in the last year, creating a new record. It fully reflects the high respect for local traditions and strong support for local anti-epidemic work. He thanked Consul General Li Xuhang for visiting the labor accommodation and handing out iftars in person, making positive contributions to promoting the friendship between the two countries and the two peoples.

Li Xuhang said that poverty alleviation is a good tradition shared by China and the UAE. Last year, China scored a major victory in the fight against poverty, completely eradicating absolute poverty. Dubai has also eliminated poverty and become a modern international metropolis in only 50 years. Both China and the UAE have created miracles in the history of poverty reduction, providing their wisdom and solutions to poverty alleviation for the world. The Consulate General and overseas Chinese actively participated in donating Iftar, hoping to help local labor groups in difficulties fight the epidemic with practical actions so that they can overcome the difficulties and defeat the epidemic as soon as possible. The current situation of the epidemic in the UAE is still complicated. It is hoped that overseas Chinese and local workers will increase their awareness of epidemic prevention and have a joyful and healthy Ramadan.

The Consulate General and UAE All-China Federation have organized Iftar donation for two years running. This year, the Consulate General, overseas Chinese and Chinese students studying in the UAE donated 11,200 iftar meals to the Dubai Community Development Authority. The CDA has arranged the distribution of the meals to the labor accommodation.
